The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park is one of Australia’s most treasured assets and an international icon. Marine tourism in the Great Barrier Reef region is worth $5.1 billion annually and employs some 54,000 people according to the latest statistics. As such it must be managed in the most careful and long-sighted way. I believe the green zone (no-take) area of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park should be extended to ensure Queensland’s pristine marine environment is preserved. I also strongly support initiatives to develop solar-based energy supplementation for our city.
