Peter's Plans for the Future
I’m passionate about helping our community by building better roads, fighting crime, having first class health facilities, supporting quality education, and delivering a clean environment.
Concerns that must be addressed include:
CRIME:
I continue to speak out about children on the street late at night, feeling safe in your home, vandalism and criminal offences against seniors.
Townsville families must not fear for their safety in their home or when using local leisure areas, as we have seen in the past at Murray Skate Park. I am determined too do all I can to address the issue of irresponsible drivers and hoons…we are all fed up with this problem.
HEALTH:
The availability of timely and affordable health care, after hours GP services, lengthy hospital waiting lists and lack of beds at the Townsville hospital.
EDUCATION:
Properly funded Schools, a strong apprenticeship system, support for family choice in education and satisfying the availability of places and courses in higher education in North Queensland.
ROADS:
Residents continually discuss their concerns about the state of the roads both local and national. The Australian government has prime responsibility for the Bruce Highway. That’s why I will continue the program to upgrade the highway to a better standard. Locally I am a keen supporter of the Roads to Recovery program, a federal program that fixes Council roads.
ENVIRONMENT:
I continue to be a strong advocate for continuing to address environmental degradation of the land, sea and air, protecting the World Heritage values of the rainforest, the islands and the marine park and funding new technologies that will reduce greenhouse emissions.
