- Doubled childcare subsidies and rebates, and created more childcare places.

Health
- Established a medical school at JCU to train doctors locally
- Boosted the bulk billing rate in Herbert by an extra 10,000 consultations a year

Seniors
- More than doubled aged care funding in Herbert to $30 million annually
- Added 60 more public aged care places in the city

Roads

Community development
- Gained $2 million federal funding for The Strand redevelopment
- Gained $6 million funding for the Riverway sports stadium
- $6 million for the Murray Sports Complex redevelopment
- Gifted Jezzine Barracks to Townsville community
Defence and veterans
- Four stages of development and expansion at Lavarack Barracks
- Improved defence capability and equipment to support overseas operations
- Across the board pay rises for all military personnel
- Better defence housing and family support
- Boosted veterans' funding from $6 billion to more than $10 billion annually
- Introduced Saluting Their Service to bolster community acknowledgement of our veterans' service
- Increased funding for the veterans' Gold and White Card programs
Education and training
- Provided $3.6 million for 33 locals schools to complete 92 individual improvement projects
- Re-introduced plain English report cards and mandatory literacy testing in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9
- Established the acclaimed North Queensland Technical College to fast-track apprenticeships
- Established the Medical School at James Cook University and in 2007 created 98 new undergraduate places in the medical and science fields.
- Funded Allied Health, Veterinary Science and Tropical Agricultural Science at James Cook.
- Built the best Australian Technical College in Australia
Local environment
- Introduced an $8,000 subsidy per home for solar installation
- Established a Solar City project in Townsville and on Magnetic Island
- Strengthened protection for the Great Barrier Reef
- Supported the Green Corps program to improve our local riverways.
- Funding walking paths and boardwalks on Magnetic Island
- Gave schools $50,000 to install solar hot water and rainwater tanks
Fighting crime
- Provided $150,000 to establish a juvenile crime prevention program in Townsville
- Gained federal funding to help local councils install camera surveillance in entertainment districts
