The Liberal Party has a proud heritage.
In 1944 Robert Menzies believed the time was right for a new political force in Australia — one which fought for the freedom of the individual and produced broad-minded liberal policies. His vision laid the foundation for a long and distinguished period of political leadership. Since 1944 Australians have benefited from a collective period of over 40 years of Liberal leadership in federal government.
It is often said that Robert Menzies stood for the ‘forgotten people’ of Australia; those mainstream Australians whose goals, needs and aspirations had been ignored by Labor governments.
In July 2008 an historic merger occurred between two great political parties in Queensland – the Liberal Party and the National Party. Merging the Libs and the Nats in Queensland has delivered a potent political force — the LNP —whose sole aim is to create a better future for all Queenslanders.
Our united Queensland team is working together to deliver strong, effective alternative policies to the current Labor Government’s short-term quick fixes and cover-ups.
Unlike Labor, our policies reflect the diverse needs of the wide Queensland community whom we represent, from the top of Cape York through to the Gold Coast and west to the border.
Our members are locals in their community — unlike the Labor Party which often parachutes ring-ins with no local connection into safe electorates.
Party members are active contributors to their community, taking part in policy debate; working to ensure Governments at all levels remain responsible to the needs of Queensland citizens.
There is no limit to your involvement. There are no boundaries to the influence and contribution you can make.
Initially all you need to do is become a member of your local branch. As a branch member you can participate in political debates, express your own views, and work towards having those views become part of policy.
After all, the party is simply a reflection of the views of its members. Obviously the strength of your beliefs and your ability to harness support from other members determines the impact your views will have.
As a branch member, you will help to mobilise public opinion and put your chosen representatives into government. You will have the opportunity to represent your branch as a delegate to State Electoral Conferences, Federal Electoral Conferences, State Convention and State Council.
If you have strong views on particular policies you may wish to be involved with one of the many Policy Advisory Committees, which are organised to reflect members' views.
